Benjamin Hughes
cello

Benjamin Hughes studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen, Germany with Alexander Baillie. Following this, he graduated with a Master’s degree from Eastman School of Music, New York studying with Steven Doane.

Benjamin has appeared as guest Principal cello with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Scottish Opera, the Orchestra of Opera North and the Philharmonia. He is in demand as a chamber musician, working frequently with the Fibonacci Sequence and the London Piano Trio, appearing at prestigious venues including the Wigmore Hall and the Martinů Hall in Prague. He has broadcast frequently on BBC Radio and Television and since 2007 has been Principal cello of the BBC Concert Orchestra, with whom he played Friedrich Gulda's cello concerto on a live broadcast last year.
