Soprano

Ann Mackay studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. Early prizes included the National Federation of Music Society Award, the Concert Artists Guild of America Award and the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera. Since then she has become one of the foremost sopranos of her generation performing with all the leading orchestras and appearing regularly at major venues, notably the South Bank, Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera House. She has recorded for the BBC, RPO, Decca, ASV and Meridien. Her special affinity for Handel was recognised by her election as the John Clements Collard Fellow by the Worshipful Company of Musicians. She has travelled the world and is recognised as one of the most versatile sopranos with a vast range that enables her to present works from the Baroque to the contemporary, Lieder to Opera, Operetta to songs from the shows, the tragic to the hilarious with equal success. She lives in Oxford with her young family.
