Deux-Elles: Chamber music for harp - released summer 2004

The Fibonacci Sequence boasts players whose individual skills blossom under the spotlight. For its 10th anniversary, this indispensable ensemble appears on a series of discs, each devoted to a different instrument. The first features the harp, played with sensitivity and elan by Gilllian Tingay. The famous Introduction and Allegro is here, but I also enjoyed the Elegiac Trio by Arnold Bax and Glinka's Der Zweifel (though the harp is a little overshadowed). There are also works by Dussek, Saint-SaÎns and Ippolitov-Ivanov. Deux-Elles' recording is exemplary in terms of bloom. The crystalline clarity of individual lines in the Ravel, in particular, projects the work's dynamic qualities as well as its propensity for reverie.
