My thanks for once more opening my ears to music which I am learning to love. I have now heard Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time twice. I suppose you could describe my tastes in music as rather conventional - Bach to Bernstein - but hitherto not much earlier and not much later. Somehow your quartet has made Messiaen's music accessible to me, moving and exciting.
What I loved about your performance was the seeming paradox of four individual musicians who work so well together and at the same time remain individuals and express themselves in their own way. You seem to have an intuitive rapport and yet the music allowed each instrument to 'be itself' and not simply part of a whole. Perhaps it was the intimate setting of the concert at St Mary's Church, Putney or perhaps the music's own magic - but I found myself drawn into the sounds in a quite unexpected and profound way.
So thank you again - I am becoming a Messiaen fan - and a Fibonacci sequence groupie.
