This album has become one of my favourite viola albums (and as a professional violist I have made it my business to collect most of them). Inoue is a superb musician and her tone is far better than most and second to none of the current generation of viola soloists. Her Bruch Romance is an honest, no nonsense and extremely musical interpretation which in my opinion is the best of the several available on CD and does far more justice to the composers intentions than that of the better known Yuri Bashmet - which I find very self indulgent. In terms of repertoire I think the pick of the bunch of the rest of the programme are the Kalliwoda Nocturnes and the Frank Bridge pieces. As far as I know the Kalliwoda pieces are not available on other recordings and they are stunningly played here. The two Frank Bridge pieces have been recorded elswhere but not as well as this in my view. The pianist Kathron Sturrock has got to be one of the best chamber musicians in the business and her accompanying of Inoue is superb. I hope Inoue will record again soon as she is a very very fine violist.
