wind and piano workshops

On 7th November the music department were privileged to play host to an afternoon of workshops and an evening concert led by internationally-renowned chamber ensemble The Fibonacci Sequence. Wind players from The Fibonacci Sequence began the afternoon with an educational concert, attended by all of Years 7 & 8 plus nearly thirty children from local primary and preparatory schools. The visiting children then joined the Sevenoaks School Wind Band for a rehearsal session in preparation for the evening concert. For many of our students the highlight of the afternoon workshops was having the opportunity to work closely with the professional musicians during chamber music coaching sessions. Mrs Jackie Hendry, who was involved with one coaching session, said, ?the enthusiasm of the Fibonacci players for their instruments, their love of chamber music and their desire to energise the young players was infectious.? The Fibonacci Sequence wind players were joined for the evening concert by their pianist for superb performances of chamber music by Mozart, Saint-Sa?ns, Barber, Koechlin and Poulenc. The concert also featured not only the Wind Band with visiting children, but also the Sevenoaks School Flute Choir and a student wind quintet. Sixth former Isla Stevens said, ?it boosted everyone's confidence to know they were considered of such a standard that they could even play in the same concert as professional players.? The whole day was a wonderful opportunity for our wind players to work alongside professional musicians and many students came away feeling truly inspired and with a renewed enthusiasm for music.
